The Jammu & Kashmir Services Selection Board (JKSSB) has notified the syllabus for the Assistant Handicrafts Training Officer (AHTO) and Assistant Handlooms Training Officer (AHTO) posts under the Industries and Commerce Department. 1. General Awareness (with special reference to J&K UT) – 24 Marks
- Current events of national and international importance
- Political and physical divisions of India
- Climate and crops in India
- Transport and communication
- Demography — census, features and vital statistics
- Important rivers and lakes in India
- Indian economy
- Indian culture and heritage
- Indian history with special reference to the Freedom Movement
- Indian Constitution — Preamble, Fundamental Rights, Fundamental Duties, Directive Principles of State Policy
- Science and technology
- Environment, ecology and bio-diversity
- Taxation in India — Direct and Indirect Tax (CBDT, GST, etc.)
- J&K UT: History, Economy, Geography (weather, climate, crops, rivers, lakes, flora, fauna), Heritage & Culture, Important Tourist Destinations, J&K Reorganization Act 2019
- Centrally Sponsored Schemes (MGNREGA, PMAY, SBM) and Panchayati Raj Act/Rules

5. Basic Knowledge of Computers – 30 Marks
- Basic applications of computer and its components
- Fundamentals of computer science
- Hardware & software, concept of open-source technologies

- Knowledge of MS Word, MS Excel, MS Access, MS PowerPoint, PDF, Internet and E-mail
- Concept of computer virus and latest anti-virus
- Role of Information Technology in governance
How to Prepare
Given that Basic Computer Knowledge carries the highest weightage (30 marks), candidates should not treat it as an afterthought — cover MS Office fundamentals, hardware/software basics, and IT-in-governance topics thoroughly. Equal weightage (24 marks each) to General Awareness, English, and Reasoning means a balanced study plan across all three is essential, alongside focused practice on J&K-specific current affairs and the J&K Reorganization Act, 2019.
